“I’ll pray for you.”
They are frequently uttered words. But how often do we follow through?
Life is busy. It’s easy to promise to pray, and when we do, we have good intentions.
Remembering to pray for a specific need is a bit more challenging. That’s why it’s helpful to have a system to track prayer requests.
A Free Printable Prayer Request Tracker
I’ve always used a plain sheet of binder paper in my prayer journal for tracking prayer requests.
Binder paper is boring, though, so I created a free printable prayer request tracker.
I actually use multiple copies in my prayer journal, as I commit to praying for different people on different days.
- Sunday: The people in government.
- Monday: My husband and our marriage.
- Tuesday: Other people (friends, extended family, neighbors).
- Wednesday: My kids.
- Thursday: My ministries.
- Friday: My own life.
- Saturday: My church.
I put a copy of my prayer request tracker in each section, so I can easily categorize the things I’m praying for. I’m a little neurotic that way.
It would be just as handy to keep a copy of the prayer request tracker in your Bible, too.
Tracking Answers to Prayer
One thing I wish I had begun to do earlier in life is track God’s answers to my prayers.
I love having a record of how God has worked in my life, even when His answer to my requests is “no” or “wait.”
Sometimes when I look back over those seemingly negative answers to my prayers, I find that those “no’s” have led to other, better things than what I originally asked for.
Often the “better thing” is the growth in my relationship with Christ that I experience by having to live without that thing I asked for.
But without tracking the answers to my prayers, it’s easy to miss the correlation between my own growth and God’s answers to prayer.
It’s also easy to forget how faithful God has been in my life.
To create a record of how God works, I added a section in my prayer tracker to record God’s answers to my prayers.
Just like flipping through an old journal can bring back memories of good things that have happened, looking back over God’s answers to prayer can strengthen our faith by reminding us of how God works in our lives.
