You sink down into your sofa after your kids are in bed.
It’s been another particularly rough day.
Your teen has been extra surly. You caught your middle school student in another lie. Your five year old has been whining non-stop for days.
You’re at the end of your parenting rope. And you think to yourself, “Am I doing this parenting thing right?”
Every parent has been there. I’ve been there more times than I can count.
Unfortunately, kids don’t come with instruction manuals. Of course the Bible is the best place to turn to learn how to be a great parent.
But sometimes, especially when we are exhausted, it’s helpful to have a resource that pulls Biblical parenting principles together in one place.
8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids by Dr. Todd Cartmell is one such resource.

8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids by Dr. Todd Cartmell is a short book (just 196 pages) with very short chapters. That makes for easy reading, a little bit at a time — perfect for busy parents.
The book is divided into eight sections, one section for each tool:
Each section is further divided into five chapters of 3-4 pages each. The chapters provide suggestions for developing each parenting tool.
For instance, the section on talking contains chapters entitled
- Control Your Volume Knob
- If Unsure, Press Pause
- Start with You
- Be Easy to Listen To
- Play a Game of Catch
Chapters end with a quick tip that sums up the chapter and questions to help you reflect on how you parent in the skill described in the chapter.
8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids by Dr. Todd Cartmell is published by Moody Publishers. It is available at Moody Publishers, as well as on Amazon and at other major book dealers and Christian bookstores.Do you have the tools it takes to raise great kids? #8SimpleTools #FlyBy Click To Tweet

My Review of 8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids
I love this book! I love that the chapters are really short, so I can read a few pages every night.
I also like the succinct tips at the end of each chapter. It would be fun to print out the tips I need to work on and hang them up throughout the house as reminders.
8 Simple Tools for Raising Great Kids is a good book for parents of children of any age. The tips are just as applicable to parenting my teens as they are to parenting my five year old.
The tools go beyond parenting, too. They are great tools for relating to any people in your life.
